Private buy checklist for BC (print this before you send money)

Before any private purchase: (1) daylight meet with the car present, (2) match VIN on dash + door sticker + registration, (3) ICBC claim history / Carfax if available, (4) independent PPI for anything over a few thousand dollars, (5) never e-transfer a “hold” deposit to a stranger. What’s the one step people still skip?

VIN match is non-negotiable. I’ve seen door sticker and dash disagree once — walked immediately.

Add: test AC max cold, all windows, reverse lights, and a 20‑minute highway run for overheating. Cold parking-lot loops hide sins.

Never send a deposit. If they “have other buyers,” let them. Real sellers meet with the car.
