When a PPI is non‑negotiable (and when you can skip it)

Book a pre-purchase inspection for: private sales, higher km, any truck/SUV you’ll keep 5+ years, anything with a “fresh” service story. Maybe skip: brand-new trade with full dealer history you trust, or a $1,500 beater priced as scrap. What’s your personal PPI rule?

PPI found a leaking rear main on a “perfect” private truck. $200 inspection, walked from a $4k repair. Always on private over $8k for me.

I skip PPI only on sub‑$2k beaters I can afford to lose. Everything else gets a shop.
