AWD or quality winters for Whistler a few times a year?

City + highway most days, mountains a few times a year. Tight budget. Buy AWD or put cash into excellent winters on solid FWD? What do you drive and would you choose again?

Good winters + FWD for mostly-city. AWD if you live up the mountain or do Whistler weekly. Most people overbuy AWD.

Money into winters + PPI. FWD Civic. Fine 95% of the year; I just slow down in rare snow.

AWD helps you go. It does not help you stop. Tires first, always.
