Private or dealer for a used truck under $25k?

Looking at 2016–2019 half-tons. Dealers cost more and say “inspected.” Private is cheaper and scarier. If you’ve done both — what would you never skip before money moves?

Private for price, never skip independent PPI. Paid $200 once, dodged a cooked transmission.

Dealer “inspection” was a printout and a smile. Private + my shop was more honest.
